Charlton announce friendly venue switch

Charlton’s match with Sporting Clube de Potugal was switched from the Estadio Ciudad de Lepe Stadium to the Estadio Luís
Rodríguez Salvador, home of AD Cartaya.

The ground is just a few miles from Lepe and the game will now kick-off at 9.00pm
local time.

No reason was given for the switch but the Lepe club are owned by Tony Jiminez so the change of venue may have some significance.

It has been a hugely frustrating summer for the Addicks to arrange their warm up campaign. The Fulham game on 11 August will have to be played behind closed doors on police advice due to the Olympics. The Barnet game scheduled for Saturday 2 July was cancelled for similar reasons.

The club announced last week that the game could go ahead on a different date with Tuesday 24 July looking the most likely
option if it meets with police approval.

With the weekend of 28/29 July now vacant, it is possible Charlton may think about trying to slot in another fixture on one
of these days.

Meanwhile, time marches on and the players will report back at the end of this week for their fitness assessments with Laurence Bloom. Pre-season training begins in earnest next Monday.

No new signings yet but Rangers’ wide man, John Fleck, is the latest rumour to be doing the rounds.

The clubs talented youngsters will have an array of extra coaching help on the forthcomong season. Nathan Jones, Chris Fairclough and Sergei Baltacha have been added as the academy gears up to attain Category Two staus.

Alex Newall has left the club’s board just a few months after joining as part of a boardroom restructure. There are various stories circulating about the club’s financial situation but all will, no doubt, be revealed in time.

Bye-bye 2011/12, welcome 2012/13.
