Karl Robinson will have two new faces to bolster his squad for the long trip to Blackpool next week.
Sullay Kaikai will complete his loan move from Crystal Palace in the early part of the week, and he will be joined by a left-footed Polish striker, who is due to sign a loan deal on Monday.
With the injured players beginning to return to action, Robinson will be much happier with his available options.
The Addicks recorded their third straight win on Saturday with goals from Joe Aribo and Stephy Mavididi, plus an own goal from Kory Roberts. Erhun Oztumer scored Walsall’s goal.
Chris Solly returned to the starting line-up, and Tariqe Fosu made his comeback from the bench.
The Saddlers played neat, open football, which made for an entertaining game.
As well as the three goals, Charlton struck the woodwork three times, and Liam Roberts had to produce a wonder save to foil Joe Aribo.
Josh Magennis had a golden opportunity to end his goal drought after 25 minutes. Harry Lennon put the big striker clear, but he shot straight at Roberts.
The Addicks took the lead six minutes later though. Ben Reeves’ free-kick found Mark Marshall on the left. Marshall’s cross was skillfully steered home by Aribo at the far post.
Mavididi hit the crossbar four minutes later, but Walsall got a surprise equaliser after 41 minutes when the diminutive, Erhun Oztumer, headed home a cross from the left.
The visitors nearly took the lead three minutes after the interval. Harry Lennon was robbed on the left, andJoe Edwards hit the bar. Ezri Konsa made a fantastic block to stop Walsall scoring from the rebound.
Two minutes later, Magennis could have restored the hosts’ lead, but he was again foiled by the Walsall keeper when clear.
Ben Amos produced a great save midway through the half to foil Luke Leahy.
Charlton came desperately close to retaking the lead after 70 minutes. Fosu swung in a free-kick from the left, Aribo’s header drew a fantastic save from Liam Roberts, Lennon’s follow up hit the post, but somehow the Saddlers scrambled the ball clear.
But the Addicks did score a second three minutes later. Mavididi was closing in on goal with Kory Roberts desperately trying to catch him. Roberts managed to get a toe on the ball, but unfortunately for him, he put it past his own keeper.
Seven minutes from time, Marshall had the chance to sew the game up, but he blazed Aribo’s pull back over the bar.
But the Addicks did make the game safe in the a minute from time.
Mavididi got his richly deserved goal when he cut in from the left to beat Roberts.
Shortly after, he left the pitch to a standing ovation when Robinson substituted him.
The win keeps a play-off place as a distinct possibility, and with reinforcements due in the week, Robinson will be confident of keeping the run going at Blackpool next Saturday.
