American football is a growing sport in the UK with the NFL international series being played at Wembley three times over the course of this season.
Participation in the sport is growing and in Kent in particular with university teams at Kent University and Canterbury Christ Church University as well as non university sides in the Maidstone Pumas and East Kent Mavericks
Canterbury Christ Church University created the Canterbury Chargers American football team back in 2008 due to demand with myself playing in the sides first ever game as a running back and the levels of interest have continued to grow with this years roster with record numbers of freshers or 1st year students eager to learn the game.
The Canterbury Chargers have been very lucky to get ex Philadelphia Eagle full back Ronnie Ghent onto their coaching team for this season but that’s not all that the team are hoping for.
@nfl_uk on twitter are running a competition for an American football team to train alongside the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are rumoured to be the franchise that could come permanently come to London and the Chargers want this great opportunity, possibly giving the talented few a chance in next years draft.
The main hope that training with the Jaguars will give the Chargers the edge in their upcoming season which starts with a tough trip away to University of East Anglia.
The team need your help to win this opportunity however as the team with the most tweets of support can win. Tweets to support the cause must be to @nfl_uk and feature #ChargersNFLuk in the tweet. With your help, the stars of the future may just be in your back yard.
SUPPORT THE CANTERBURY CHARGERS by following them on twitter @c4chargers to see how their season goes and see if they win the competition.
