A Charlton Xl, effectively a reserve side, will visit Billericay Town for a pre-season friendly on Tuesday 5 August. The match will kick-off at 7.45pm.
Queens Park Rangers regained their Premier League status after defeating Derby in the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley on Saturday. Derby’s young side will be a potent force in next season’s Championship and it would be no surprise if the Rams go one better next time around.
Rotherham secured the final Championship berth for next season with a penalty shoot-out win over Leyton Orient on Sunday. Orient led 2-0 at half-time but the Millers levelled things up early in the second period.
Many Charlton fans will have Rotherham’s New York Stadium earmarked for a visit when the Addicks play there.
The ground gets its name from the area of the town it is situated in, which is known as ‘New York’ by the local inhabitants.
The stadium has a 12,000 capacity and up to 2,500 away fans can be housed behind one of the goals. Entrance to the seats is from pitch level and it is a steep climb to the back rows of the stand.
There is street parking available around the old Millmoor ground, which is within easy walking distance of Rotherham’s new home. Train travellers will have a five minute walk from Rotherham Central.
Former Addicks keeper, Rob Elliot, made his debut for the Republic of Ireland on Sunday. Ireland were beaten 2-1 by Turkey, with Elliot having little chance with either goal. Ireland’s next game will be against Italy in London, but Elliot will be unavailable as he is getting married.
Those anxious for news of player arrivals for next season may not have to wait too much longer, the wheels may already be in motion.
