British F4 Championship leader, Kiern Jewiss, moves onto Croft this weekend for the fifth race weekend of the 2018 season and he is looking to extend his lead at the top of the points table before the summer break.
Kiern Jewiss heads to Croft this weekend as the FM Conway-sponsored youngster looks to extend his championship lead and continue his outstanding start to his debut season in single seaters. After recording four wins and nine podiums from the first twelve races of the year, Kiern now has 206 championship points to his name and leads the Drivers’ Championship by 16 points.
Coming just before the ‘summer break’, Croft is always a pivotal round as drivers seek to pull out an advantage over their rivals before the mid-season interval. Measuring in at 2.13-miles, the North Yorkshire venue is renowned for its challenging, technical nature and it is often regarded as the truest all-round test on the calendar – making the challenge for perfect setup all the more crucial.
Kiern’s last round at Oulton Park saw the fifteen-year-old dominate the weekend as he finished on the podium in all three races of the weekend for the first time in 2018. Kiern also took his maiden pole position in British F4 and also secured his first British F4 hat-trick in race three as he started on pole, took victory and recorded the fastest lap to round off a sublime weekend.
Looking ahead to this weekend, Kiern is feeling confident but remains grounded after testing indicated this could be one of his toughest weekend to date.
“The year has started amazingly, to be leading the championship after four weekends is the dream start. Everything has gone to plan so far and the team have been fantastic in helping me achieve all this success. We came to Croft earlier in the month for testing and didn’t have the smoothest of tests. Hopefully, we can assess the data and the onboards from the test and be back at the front once again.”
Testing takes place on Friday with sessions at 09:15 and 13:40. With Saturday playing host to qualifying and race one at 10:50 and 14:45 respectively. Sunday’s two races then will take place live on ITV4 at 12:45 and 16:00.
