Truck racing returns to Brands Hatch this weekend and Kent also boasts the defending Champion in Dave Smith.

Smith races in Division Two of the two categories that race and he can’t wait to go racing at his home circuit.

Although he competes in the second tier of truck racing, under new rules he now has a good a chance as those in Division One to take an overall race win this weekend.

As we previously told you a couple of weeks ago, they are bringing in a reverse grid system, that means that Division Two trucks now get a head start on those faster trucks in the first tier, this should make for more entertaining races.

However, local boy Smith is already behind the eight ball in the season, having missed the entire of round one with engine difficulties.

This means that he is now 50 points behind his competitors, something he is certainly aware of heading into the Brands Hatch round.

He said: ““With the new five race format we are 50 points adrift,” he admitted. “So it will take quite a few meetings to catch up. As we’re all going to score high points this could be a disadvantage.”

This will be the sixth time that Smith has appeared at his local circuit in his career and despite making no changes to his truck in the off season, he knows that some of his competitors have changed and improved their machines.

He added: ““I think newcomer Simon Reid did quite well at Pembury and his truck was always fast, so it’s one to keep an eye on. Steven Powell, former class champion who returns to Division 2 is going to be a threat in the DAF.

“I definitely can’t wait for Brands Hatch. It’s good to get out there. Paddock Hill is probably the best place for spectators to watch.”

There are plenty of support races including Pickup trucks and Classic Formula Ford as well as plenty of family fun off the track.
