Gillingham have another player at their disposal as Josh Chambers has returned to Priestfield after signing a new contract.
The 18-year-old was offered a new deal at the end of last season and discussions between the two parties have been ongoing, however the midfielder has now put pen to paper.
Neil Harris gave Josh his full debut at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland in April, having come on as a sub in the 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers the previous month.
The Gills boss said: “His hard work starts now. We’ve got to build him back up; I like his character and I like his mentality. He’s a winner.
“Hopefully he shows the ability to develop and be one of our own on the Football pitch sooner rather than later.”
The return of Chambers comes at the perfect time for a Gillingham squad that’s already starting to look paper thin.
With both Dom Jefferies and Olly Lee already out injured, skipper Stuart O’Keefe picked up a knock at Hartlepool United on Saturday.
Should he be missing for Saturday’s home League Two clash with Sutton United, Chambers could come into contention for a place in the starting eleven.
