Golden brace for Anna Wessels

Last weekend saw Royal Tunbridge Wells Monson Swimming Club (RTWM) members in action at the Bexley Swimming Club Level 3 Short Course Open Meet held at the Crook Log Sports Centre, Bexley.

Twelve swimmers went in search of last minute Kent County Championship Qualifying times and experience and were not disappointed.

Anna Wessels (11 Years) won her first open Meet Gold and ended up coming away with a golden brace, topping the podium in both the 100m Breaststroke and 100m Backstroke in the 10/11 years age group. Anna supplemented her haul with a fine Silver in the 50m Breaststroke.

Joshua Harrison (14 years) took silver with a well paced 400m Freestyle in the 14/15 years category securing a Kent County ASA Championship qualifying time (KQT)in the process and team mate Savanna Jemmett (14 years) also achieved two KQT’s and took bronze in the 14/15 years 200m Freestyle. RTWM’s only other medal of the meet came from 9 year old George Pepper who demonstrated his all round ability by securing a well earned Bronze medal in his age group 100m Individual Medley, his first in an open meet.

George was unlucky not to add more medals in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke where he narrowly missed the podium finishing fourth on both occasions.

There were also KQT’s for Anthony Bayley (13 years) in the 50m Breaststroke and Lucy Reeves (10 years) who added to her entries for this year’s championships with a 50m Backstroke time. Also competing and achieving several Personal Best’s were: Aiden Crewe (11 years), Anna Bayley (12 years), Hannah Lambert (9 years), Jasmine Lambert (12 years), Joshua Cruz (12 years), and Mia Burns (11 years)

RTWM will next be in action at Canterbury and Dover Lifeguard Swimmng Club’s ‘Ice Breaker’ meet next weekend to be held in Canterbury. Anyone interested in the clubs activities should visit the club website at www.rtwmonson.org.
