The Invicta Dynamos unbeaten run finally came to an end on Saturday night as they were beaten by the Cardiff NIHL Devils.
Kevin Parrish’s side went into the game down in Wales unbeaten in their last thirteen games, but knew the league encounter as they took to the ice without Andy Smith, Callum Fowler and Davey Jackson.
It wasn’t to be the best of starts to the game either for the Dynamos who gave a debut to new import Marek Nahlik, with the Devils racing into a two goal lead in the opening eighty seconds.
If that wasn’t bad enough, they were to lose the services of Danny Hammond after just five minutes as he took to the changing room with a dead leg.
Short handed, the Dynamos tried to put up some resistance, but went in at the end of the first period trailing 3-0.
Rallied by Parrish at the break, the Dynamos pulled one back after just 27 seconds in the second period through Peter Beerling, but the home side were to add two more to open the score up to 5-1.
The comeback fr0m the Dynamos saw them claw it back to 5-3 at the end of the second with Nicky Lewis and Juraj Huska adding their names to the scoresheet.
Once again, Cardiff were to add the first goal of the next period, but the Dynamos weren’t to lie down with Nahlik scoring his first for the club on 49 minutes to make it 6-4.
Cardiff restored their three goal lead a minute later and despite Nicky Lewis adding his second of the night to make it 7-5, it wasn’t to be the tense finish Dynamos fans were hoping for with the home side adding the killer eighth with four and a half minutes to go.
With the Chelmsford Chieftains not in action in the league, the Dynamos stay joint top despite their second defeat of the season.
They’ll be looking to put the defeat behind them quickly when Milton Keynes Thunder come to the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham on Sunday night for the latest of their NIHL Southern Cup clashes. Face off is at 5:15pm.
