SCL offers an unrivalled education programme and the Canterbury Rugby Club Academy will deliver an outstanding rugby excellence programme, providing a unique opportunity for players to train and study to develop their academic and sporting performance.

In recognition of his exceptional work in growing the schools programme, it’s been announced that Liam Cranford will be their very first Rugby Academy Manager. In this role he will take responsibility, working with the SCL team, for all aspects of the sporting excellence programme.”

Over the 2-year duration students will study for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma (Extended) in Sport Performance and Excellence, which is a fully funded, full-time education course delivered in partnership with SCL.

Successful completion of the educational programme will enable players to follow pathways into Higher Education at University and employment opportunities within the sport and leisure industry, including coaching placements and apprenticeships.

SCL will be responsible for the management and delivery of the educational element of the Academy. SCL currently works in partnership with many Sixth Form Schools, Further Education Colleges, Football and Rugby Academies in the South of England and have over 15 years of experience successfully delivering vocational and academic sports based qualifications.

The SCL team consists of highly qualified and experienced teachers, assessors, verifiers and RFU coach educators.

All Academy players will attend the club for five days of the week where they will receive at least 2 hours daily training and coaching sessions, which focus on the four core components of the player development model: technical, tactical, physical and mental skills development.

The players will receive skills sessions, specialist unit training, strength & conditioning, performance analysis, nutrition and more!

The club will be hosting an information day, for both parents and potential students, at the next home game on Saturday 19th March 2016 and the first rugby trial will take place on Wednesday 6th April 2016.
