Next up for Canterbury City is AFC Whyteleafe on Saturday who are the first competitive visitors to the club’s new home at Hartsdown Park.
After two contrasting but dramatic away wins from their first two matches of the season, City will be looking to continue that form against the Surrey side who are many people’s favourites for the title, topping the SCEFL First Division Title Predictor Poll with 21% of the votes.
Adding to the depth of the squad over the summer with several signings and with five wins and a draw from six pre-season matches they have undoubtedly caught the eye amongst First Division watchers.
Add to that a victory at home to FC Elmstead by 3-0 in their only league game so far, certainly means that they are up and running already this term, having finished eighth in the league last season – eight points off the play-offs.
As a football club AFC Whyteleafe have been in existence for less than two years after they were formed to replace Whyteleafe FC enabling football to be maintained in the area and ensured the continued use of the Whyteleafe Stadium. City had met predecessors Whyteleafe on a few occasions but this fixture will be the first game with the new club – the journey to Margate being their longest of the league season.
After the brilliant away support at K Sports on Monday, it would be great to get a good crowd along to cheer Dan and the team on in this first home fixture and don’t forget, the club is continuing with a printed programme and hot off the press here is an advance preview of the new cover sporting the new design and the Club’s much favoured new crest
Canterbury City vs AFC Whyteleafe will be played at Hartsdown Park on Saturday 19th August, kick-off is at 3pm.
