Canterbury announce six new signings

Canterbury Rugby club has announced the signing of six new players and promised that there will be more before the return to National Division 2 rugby in September.

The back division has been reinforced by centres Adam Wallace from Hartpury College and Kent Under 20s and Blackheath player Aiden Moss. Fly half Scott Browne, who joins from Tring, has experience of top club rugby in Ulster.

Former Bridgwater and North Midlands Under 20 lock Jeremy Darley; ex-Thanet Wanderers hooker Neil Wakefield and prop Charlie Cutting, who has come through Kent’s Performance Development Group, will create competition for places in the Canterbury pack.

Moss, Wallace and Wakefield are all from East Kent and will add to the strong local influence in an enlarged senior squad.

“We already have a very good squad who can compete at National 2 level but we need to boost numbers, “said Head Coach Andy Pratt.

“With a couple of pre-season injuries to take into account we are aiming to have cover for most positions before the serious business starts.”

The coaching team, again headed by Pratt and former Scotland and Northampton prop Matt Stewart, is to be joined by Kings School master Tom Hill.

The New Zealander, who played in Canterbury Kent Cup winning team of 2005, will join Lee Jeffery and Chris Franks to oversee the second team which will play in the Rugby Tech Shield in the new season.
