If Canterbury are to keep alive their faint hopes of avoiding relegation this is the kind of home game they must win but after a promising start they let it slip.    

Poor second half discipline saw them collect two yellow cards and it blew the city side off course as Moseley came from behind to take a bonus point win back to Birmingham. 

All seemed set fair for Canterbury when they scored two tries in the first ten minutes but they failed to build on a fine run by Ricky Mackintosh and a swoop by Number Eight Tyler Oliver at a fumbled Moseley lineout.      

Before the end of the half two more clear opportunities came and went, killed by sloppy passing, and with them the chance to dictate.  Moseley responded with a penalty goal from Cliff Hodgson after a high tackle and a penalty try forced by their scrummagers.

Even so Canterbury were three points ahead at the break thanks to a penalty goal from Dan Smart who had been unable to convert the tries from difficult positions.

It was a precarious lead and the city side’s lack of empathy with the referee put it under threat as the penalty count grew and Moseley built second half pressure.  

A long session in city territory was finally rewarded with a try for Hodgson in the right corner and the full back topped it up with a fine kick to put this team in the lead for the first time.   

The visitors came  back for more  but Canterbury showed plenty of defensive steel until the game was harshly influenced by those two sin binning as the final quarter approached. Prop Alex-Wake Smith was dismissed for a technical offence, quickly followed by Smart for a deliberate knock on. 

Reduced to thirteen players there was little hope of preventing Moseley’s third try which duly came from back rower Morgan Monks with Hodgson again on target with the kick. 

When back to full strength Canterbury showed they were still in the hunt with Sean Stapleton’s ball carrying often a threat but accuracy was again missing and Moseley grabbed a bonus point try late on.  

Luis Roach came off his wing to blast through midfield and outpace a deflated home side.
