Camier taking positives after horror weekend
Camier taking positives after horror weekend

Leon Camier says he will focus on the positives despite suffering a double DNF on a day when he had the pace to get onto the podium at Silverstone.

Taking full advantage of a power boost from the Yoshimura-tuned engine that is anticipated to have given the bike an extra 10 -15bhp, FIXI Crescent Suzuki rider Camier, from Ashford, set the fastest lap time of the weekend before qualifying on the front row for the  first time this season.

Proceeding to convert his grid boost into a podium challenge during the dry phase of race one, Camier still looked capable of  his first Suzuki rostrum even when the rain arrived. However, the former British Superbike Champion would succumb to the  increasingly slippery surface with three laps remaining by crashing out at Becketts, much to his evident frustration.

Looking to make amends in race two, an engine problem would curtail Camier’s disappointing day on lap three, but while the  Briton was naturally unsatisfied to come away point-less, he was nonetheless encouraged by the upturn in pace.

“It’s been a frustrating day really because I felt we had the pace in the wet or dry after setting the fastest lap of the  weekend in free practice and the qualifying in second in the wet,” he said. “These are both positive things for me and the  team, but unfortunately the results didn’t come today.

“It was very difficult conditions in race one and easy to make a mistake. I didn’t think I did anything wrong, but the rear  came round and high-sided me off, so that was it – which was really annoying as a podium was possible. In race two the bike  felt all over the place in the drier conditions, but as it rained more the wet tyres worked better and it felt good.

“We had an engine problem early on and it meant that we couldn’t complete the race, which, as I said, was very frustrating.  Although I took no points this weekend, I’m not too disappointed because we had really good pace, the bike has improved and we  showed we have a really good chance of getting results now.”
