Ashford’s World Superbike star Leon Camier is in negotations with Aprilia for a switch to the MotoGP CRT class next season, according to a factory insider.
The former British Superbike Champion, who rode for the Noale squad in WSBK during 2010 and 2011, is apparently quite a long way down the road with negotiations but hasn’t ruled out remaining in the production class paddock either.
Camier wouldn’t be drawn on the MotoGP switch when bikesportnews.com interrupted one of his comprehensive lunches earlier but he did say: “I am looking at various options both inside and outside World Superbikes, one or two of which might be a surprise.”
Current boss Paul Dennning will be keen to keep the Andorra resident especially after his race-two podium at the Nurburgring. It is believed Camier has a deal on the table from Kawasaki and Ducati for the 2013 season as well as considering a return to an RSV4 berth, depending on what happens with Max Biaggi.
In fact, it would seem Ten Kate Honda is about the only place Camier hasn’t had a conversation but it is known he will want to shift his crew, which includes former GSE Racing men Frankie Carchedi and Pete Bancewicz, with him wherever he lands.
