The Isle of Sheppey rider was in supreme form on board Paul Bird’s ZX-10R Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki as he roared to the double victory up in Scotland.

In contrast to the opening race, Byrne took the lead and set about dictating matters from the front.

He appeared comfortable in the lead and although Josh Brookes launched a late attack, closing the gap to Byrne to 0.8s, Byrne had matters under control.

Brookes ran over the kerb at the chicane on the final lap and stayed aboard to secure second place, with Ryuichi Kiyonari a long way back in third place on the Samsung Honda as the Japanese rider again finished third.

Alex Lowes, who crashed out at the hairpin in the first race, came home in fourth place, 12.723s behind race winner Byrne.

In race one, Byrne pounced in the closing stages to take victory from long-time leader Josh Brookes.

Byrne shadowed Aussie Brookes, who surged into an early lead, and made a decisive move three laps from the finish, eventually crossing the line to win by a second from the Tyco Suzuki rider.

The defending champion had first attempted to take the lead on lap 25 at the hairpin and there was contact between the pair as Brookes moved back to the front.

Byrne hit back again and this time made the pass stick on the 27th lap, opening a slight advantage to deny the Aussie by 1.069s after 30 laps.

Ryuichi Kiyonari returned to the BSB rostrum in third place as the Samsung Honda rider capitalised on a fall by his team-mate Alex Lowes to take the final podium position, five seconds behind the leading pair.
