The MCE British Superbikes roar into Brands Hatch for the big summer bash and fans favourite Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne will be looking to continue his impressive form in front of his home fans at his home circuit. After three pole positions and three victories in the last three rounds, with a couple of podiums thrown in for good measure, the Be Wiser Ducati British Superbike Championship team head to Brands this weekend looking to continue their winning ways in round seven of the British Superbike Championship.
Paul Bird’s Penrith-based team lead the way in the standings whereby Sittingb0urne’s Shane Byrne holds a 15-point advantage on the factory-backed Ducati Panigale R and he arrives at his local circuit hoping to add to his 13 impressive victories around the spectacular Grand Prix circuit.
Shakey was on course to make it a double at Thruxton two weeks ago but a technical problem ruled him out of the second race to deny him victory number 73 in his career meaning the quadruple British champion is even more determined to put on a show in front of his loyal and partisan fans at his favourite track.
Whilst Shakey missed out in race two at Thruxton, rookie team-mate Glenn Irwin came up trumps to claim his maiden BSB podium with a superb ride into third place aboard his Ducati Panigale R. The Ulsterman rode a mature race to conserve his tyres and delivered a performance which he’s been threatening to do in recent races.
Both riders are keen to continue the momentum as the season heads into the second half whilst continuing the development of the Italian marque’s latest model.
Speaking ahead of the weekends racing, Byrne said: “We can’t spend time looking back at what could’ve been at Thruxton, we now work harder, we test more and we train harder to make sure we’re in the best shape to make it happen at the next round instead which just so happens to be one of my favourite tracks in the world.
“Brands Hatch GP is practically in my back garden and I love it there, and had a lot of success over the years. We’ve tested up at Cadwell Park since Thruxton and made some progress so as ever I’m raring to get out and hope to pull off a win or two this weekend.”
