Gillingham midfielder Mark Byrne has cast some light on the sides recent good form and their hopes for the final month of the season.

Talking to KSN and the assembled press this week, Byrne admitted, “We all sat down and had a talk and said that we’d take things a game at a time.”

“We knew we were a good team, but the thing was we hadn’t been consistent enough. Then in the last couple of weeks we’ve been able to get results no matter how you do – you have to get results.

Its being together with everyone working hard. The Gaffer does the work during the week and then it’s down to us to produce it at the weekends and over the past few weeks, I think we’ve done exactly that.

Byrne paid special tribute to one of his team mates and some impressive recent performances.

Connor Ogilvie had made a massive difference coming into the back as he did when Gabby (Zakuani) got injured against Barnsley. Connor though has come in and done so well.”

“We can mix up a game and play it from either side from the back or we can grind it out if needed. Everyone’s working so hard at the moment. Weve got to keep at it – weve got a home game on Saturday and weve got to keep going now to the end of the season and finish as high up the table as we can picking up as many points as we can so that we don’t have to keep looking over our shoulders over the last couple of games so we can get as high up the League One table as we can.

With all the teams around us wanting to pick up the same points as we do, I honestly don’t think that there’s going to be too much good football played in the coming weeks.”

“We’ve just got to keep going now until the end of the season and wherever I finish up playing, we’ll just keep going. We want to stay top of the “little league” in the middle at least, and if we can stay there, we’ll keep winning picking up points all the time and finish as high up the table as we can.”

“Look at us couple of weeks ago when we were on top of the bottom four and people probably wouldn’t have said we’d be where we are now.”
