Kent’s Shane Byrne extended his lead in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship on Sunday afternoon with two podium finishes.Shane Byrne22

Shakey who started the first race of the day in second place on the grid, brought his Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki bike home in third place.

In the second race he beat his title rival Alex Lowes into second place as he returned to the top step of the podium.

He shot off of the grid and into first place as he has done several times this season into the first corner, a safety car bunched the whole field up together shortly afterwards meaning that Shakey couldn’t fully pull away from his pursuers.

Brookes was shadowing him all the way and was bidding his time before making a move to try and take the lead from the three time Champion. He however on lap eleven was forced to run wide so as to avoid contact with the leader.

This left the front two out in front on their own and on the last lap Lowes was still looking for the win but had to settle for second place.

Giving his reaction to the race weekend at Snetterton Shakey, said: “I really thought that after Knockhill I was set for a good run at circuits that are good for both me and the bike, but it seems the rest have moved forward here this weekend and closed us down.

“In the first race I didn’t have the confidence to push and I had to ride, not race, and I want to race to win.  The first race was dreadful but the team worked really hard, made changes and I felt a lot more confident.

“I made a fairly good start to the second race, pushed hard and settled down.  I pulled a bit on them but then Alex closed up as I saw +0 on my pitboard and I thought ‘oh no he is going to have a go’. I made a little mistake but pulled it back on the last lap and this one I have to dedicate to my team. After the first race I could have killed them, after the second I would marry them!”
