Kent’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne is back at his home track of Brands Hatch this weekend for the first time since he won the 2014 MCE British Superbike title there.
It wasn’t just a title win, it was the weekend that saw Shakey become a four time BSB champion and going into this weekend, he is the early pace setter in the 2015 championship.
At the opening weekend of the season Byrne took a second place in race one before going one better in the second race of the weekend taking the victory.
By his own omission Shakey was rusty in the opening weekend of the season following a crash in pre-season testing which is an ominous sign for his competitors, as he can only get better and better as the season goes on.
Speaking ahead of the weekend’s racing at Brands Hatch, Shakey said: “It has been a bit of a crazy few weeks really because it doesn’t seem like that long ago that I was lying in the gravel in Almeria knowing I had done myself some damage.
“I did everything I physically could to be back ready for the first round at Donington Park and even before the test I wasn’t sure what was going to be possible. If someone would have said to me before the races at Donington that I would get a win and a second place I would have taken their arm off for it, so I couldn’t have been much happier to leave the first round with that in the bag ahead of my home round at Brands Hatch.
“This weekend I am looking forward to my home round and doing the best job I possibly can to get the PBM Kawasaki back up on the podium. I am still feeling a bit rusty where I am still not at one hundred percent with my hand but you can guarantee that I will be giving it everything I have in the two races on Sunday.”
