Busy week ahead for Addicks
Busy week ahead for Addicks

Saturday’s game at Vicarage Road will evoke happy memories of New Year’s Day for Charlton fans.Watford

The Addicks secured a thrilling 4-3 win to get 2013 off to the best possible start. Johnnie Jackson’s knee slide to celebrate his late winner in front of the travelling fans is an image that will long love in the memory.

Callum Harriott made his first league start for nearly two years in Charlton’s 2-2 draw at Peterborough in early March. Four days later, his early strike was enough to take all three points at Huddersfield.

Chris Powell was honest enough to admit after the game, that though the free-kick routine that led to Harriott’s goal was something practiced on the training ground, Harriott was not the player who normally struck the ball when Chris Solly rolled it sideways.

Millwall have always given the Addicks problems, and last season’s encounter at The Valley was no exception. Kenny Jackett’s side triumphed with a 2-0 win.

Charlton would be delighted with a six point haul from the trio of fixtures this season, but that may be difficult to achieve.

Most of the promotion talk has centred around the three relegated sides, Queens Park Rangers, Reading and Wigan.

However, Watford will be hoping to avoid the lottery of the play-offs this season and gain automatic promotion. Gianfranco Zola’s side are in good form and will be a tough nut for the Addicks to crack.

Huddersfield are in good scoring form and the Charlton rearguard will have to be alert to the threat that James Vaughan will pose.

Millwall may be seen as Charlton’s best chance of a win. The next week or so will be fascinating.
