Just the Cup Final and the League 2 and Championship Play-Off Finals at the weekend to go, then the curtain will fall on another domestic club season.
June is the one month when traditionally there is no club football in England, but in many ways it is the most important.
The plethora of pre-season warm-up games start in early July, but before that, squads have to be assembled, staff changes behind the scenes made, stadia refurbished, and new kit brought in are just some of the things that will occupy clubs next month.
Charlton fans are still awaiting confirmation of the roles Lee Bowyer and Johnnie Jackson will have. Manager, Karl Robinson, indicated this would happen at the beginning of the month, but there has been no announcement thus far.
Robinson wants around a dozen new players for next season, and had hoped to have around half of them through the doors by mid May. Again, nothing so far.
There has been rumoured interest in Jason Pearce, and particularly Ricky Holmes.
Birmingham, Bolton and former club, Wigan, we’re thought to be pursuing Pearce, but the stories have gone cold recently.
Holmes’ manager at Northampton, Chris Wilder, is reported to be determined to add Holmes to his Sheffield United squad.
The Addicks have knocked the Blades back, and fans will be hoping that the club stick to their guns and resist any attempt to lure the current Player Of The Year away. Much will depend on the player.
Robinson will also be trying to move some players on. High earners that do not figure in his plans, such as Jorge Teixeira, and possibly Nicky Ajose, would free up money if they found new clubs.
The manager will also have to decide the future of the players who have been out on long term loan such as Cristian Ceballos, Naby Sarr and Igor Vetokele.
So, as ever, there is plenty going on behind the scenes. Most important to fans will be the arrival of new faces. They are what will really whet their appetite for the new season.
