The battle to finish in the top four and secure a Play-off place has certainly been well and truly joined now, following the Kent CTA Fire Kings’ victory over closet current rivals for that fourth place Stoke last Monday.
So the next home match this Monday could not be a more vital one for the Central Park-based side as they bid to secure all three match points and build up a healthy race points advantage too as the business end of the season really kicks in.
The opponents are first-time visitors in the league to the track at the Sittingbourne Dogs arena in Murston, the Scunthorpe Stags.
Currently rooted firmly to the bottom of the table, the side from North Lincs is led on track by the experienced Steven Jones , a team mate previously of the Kings’ own Benji Compton back in Compton’s League Riders Championship winning days with Redcar up in Jones’ native north-east.
Less far travelling for the visitors are Danno Verge and Arrun Mogridge. Kent-based Danno has been a pretty regular Monday night visitor to Central Park this term – the son of former Hackney rider Steve Verge young Danno was last seen by the Kent supporters competing in the individual meeting the Laurels last month.
Mogridge hails from the south-east too, East Grinstead to be precise and like Verge is a second generation rider: in Arrun’s case his father is a legend of Kent Speedway, Alan Mogridge who started out in the NL with Crayford and later rode for Canterbury.
The Stags include three riders new to Central Park. Scot Ryan MacDonald is 19-years-of-age and claimed a heat win when the home side succumbed to a 62-21 defeat by Kent (a record away win for the CTA Fire-backed side) all the way back in March.
Reece Downes is an outstanding prospect, riding in his first season in the League after last term claiming the runners up berth in the GB Youth championship. Jack Hall is a real rookie – who came to prominence and set out on the track to ultimately securing his reserve slot in the Stags’ squad when he won the Support Class at the monthly championship at the Steel town’s Eddie Wright Raceway in May.
Lastly Sam Chapman appears finally for his contracted club against Kent after a number of guest outings including when the Devon-based youngster guested for the CTA Fire Kings – appearing in Kent’s away win in the NL at his local Plymouth circuit.
A good crowd is expected as the chase for vital points really grabs the attention of the Kent-going Speedway public, who’ll see the action versus the Stags get underway at the normal stat time of 6.30pm on Monday 11th at Central Park.
