There was good news on Saturday evening for British Touring Car fans and more importantly Mike Bushell, following the incident at Thruxton.
During qualifying for the third round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Thruxton earlier today, AmDTuning.com driver Mike Bushell was involved in an incident that resulted in his car going off the track and into the barriers on the high-speed run from Allard to Campbell.
The heavy nature of the impact with the barriers caused extensive damage to the driver’s side of his Ford Focus, with Mike forced to exit the car via the passenger door.
Mike was attended to by medical teams who were quickly on the scene, before being taken to the circuit medical centre and then on to hospital in Southampton for further checks and assessment.
Having been diagnosed with severe ligament damage, Mike will be released from hospital later this evening to begin his recovery, although AmDTuning.com will take no further part in this weekend’s on-track action.
“The most important thing is that Mike has escaped more serious injury as a result of the accident,” AmDTuning.com team boss Shaun Hollamby said. “While it’s a disappointing way for our weekend to finish, I’d like to put on record my thanks to the marshals and medical teams who were on hand for their fantastic response to the incident.
“As is always the case, they did a brilliant job in dealing with the situation.”
