With the second weekend of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car championship now upon us, Mike Bushell is targeting a top ten finish at Donington Park.
Bushell made his debut at his home track at Brands Hatch and came away with a best finish of 11th place, and now it is time for the AmDTuning.com driver to target his maiden top ten finish, in the ultra-competitive series.
The Tunbridge Wells racer makes the trip to Donington with a 14 point lead in the Jack Sears Trophy standings having taken his first rookie win of the season in the final race of the weekend at Brands Hatch – where he also fell just shy of securing his maiden top ten finish.
Buoyed by his performance at Brands Hatch, despite admitting to not feeling at one with his Ford Focus for a large part of the weekend, Mike now heads for the East Midlands circuit eager to push forwards into the top ten – with the aim being to strengthen his lead amongst the eight rookies on track while also improving his overall championship position.
Speaking ahead of the weekend, Bushell said: “I really want to build on my performance at Brands Hatch, and one of my main targets is to try and close the gap in qualifying. If I’m being honest, I was a little disappointed in qualifying at round one but we’ve worked on the car since then and hopefully we’ll be in a position to fight for more silverware.
“We’ve got a better understanding of some of the handling issues we had been suffering, and I’m confident that Russell [Paddon – race engineer] and the guys have come up with a solution that will allow us to be even more competitive. We came close to a top ten at Brands and if we can get ourselves into the right position in qualifying, I see no reason why we can’t achieve that this weekend.
“It’s also important to make sure we get some strong finishes for the Jack Sears Trophy and I think it’s great that we’ve been given our own points classification. It gives all of the rookies a target to aim and fight for, and hopefully we’ll be able to maintain our position out front.”
