Bury v Gillingham preview

Gillingham captain Lee Martin is likely to return to the starting line-up as they go in search of three points at Bury.

The midfielder missed last weekend’s draw with Walsall because of a foot injury and then had to settle for a place on the bench against Shrewsbury Town in midweek, although he did come on for the final 21 minutes.

With Callum Reilly unable to play against his parent club, Martin is likely to be the only change for Steve Lovell’s side.

It’s the club’s fifth game in 15 days with Scott Wagstaff and Conor Wilkinson are two players pushing for places in the starting XI but the game will come too soon for defender Alex Lacey (ankle).

Bury defender Nathan Cameron could be rested again for the Shakers. Cameron’s long-standing knee problem makes it difficult for him to play twice in a week so, after 90 minutes against Blackburn on Monday, he could make way for Adam Thompson.

Danny Mayor and Neil Danns returned from injury and illness respectively against Rovers and played the full game. Craig Jones (thigh), Jermaine Beckford (knee) and Eoghan O’Connell (ruptured ligaments) remain long-term absentees.

Bury have won none of their last six league meetings with the Gills (D2 L4).

Gillingham have won their last two league trips to Gigg Lane after losing 10 of the previous 11.

Bury are unbeaten in three successive home league games for the first time this season (W1 D2); their longest run since five games in February 2017.

Only Jack Marriott (11) and Bradley Dack (eight) have scored more away goals than Tom Eaves (six) in League One this term.
