Gillingham will be hoping their season doesn’t go for a Burton when they visit the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night.
Anything less than a win could see The Gills fall as much as seven points outside the play-offs, but should they seal all three points against a Burton side that’s lost their last eight games and hasn’t won for the past sixteen games, they could be just a point off seventh place Oxford United if they were to lose against Accrington Stanley.
So, a lot rests on Tuesday night’s results for Andy Hessenthaler’s side with just eight games left to play this season.
Hessenthaler could welcome back both Charlie Lee and Danny Spiller after the pair served their respective suspensions, but they could be held back for the game against Macclesfield at Priestfield on Saturday as they’re said to be carrying knocks.
However, in a game that surely must be won, Hessenthaler may feel it necessary to risk at least one, if not both against Burton.
Striker Danny Kedwell seems almost certain to miss another game with a back problem, leaving Jo Kuffour likely to lead the line on his own again with Gavin Tomlin’s hamstring injury keeping him sidelined.
Loan signing Rowan Vine came off the bench at Bradford on the weekend and showed glimpses of the quality he has, but may have to settle for a place amongst the substitutes once again.
Therefore, The Gills could line up like this:
Gazzaniga, C Lee, Essam, Frampton, Martin, Whelpdale, J Payne, Montrose, Jackman, Obita, Kuffour.
Subs: King, O Lee, Oli, Miller, Vine.
As for Burton, their caretaker manager Gary Rowett has a whole heap of problems to deal with after his side lost 4-0 at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
Albion look set to be without goalkeeper Adam Legzdins, midfielder John McGrath and striker Calvin Zola.
