Dartford boss Tony Burman has spoken to KSN after his side’s triumph in the Kent Senior Cup Final, and admitted how delighted he was with his side’s 3-1 win over Charlton’s under 21s at Princes Park.
“To get to the Final and get a bit of silverware after the last few years is very pleasing for everybody,” the Darts boss told us after the Final.
“The players looked organised and played very, very well and I think we deserved to get the result which is fair play to all the players.”
“We’ve rotated the squad in the Cup competitions and it’s paid off again for us. We felt that if we stayed organised we’d be OK and with set pieces the main part of our game now, and I’m delighted for young Ben Francis who’s come on – he’s only 17 and he’s been threatening to do for us what he did in the Final and I’m really pleased for him.”
“The older players who have been with us for sometime, I’m really, really pleased for them, because it’s been a bit tough over the last few years and we’ve treated the competition with the respect that it warrants and we got the result at the end of the day.”
The Darts go into their last league game of the season still in with a chance of being involved post-season.
“We’ll go to St Albans and it looks like we’ve got to score at least five goals, but who knows? It’s been a funny league all season and we’ll go there and try and enjoy ourselves – I’m not sure if they’re already up and not got too much to play for but for pride.”
The Darts boss then added with a grin, “I’ll have a word with Ian (Allinson, the St Albans boss) and see what we can do!”
Burman then reflected on his own season, which included a recent spell in hospital.
He said, “A lot of things have happened to me this year, especially what happened on Easter Sunday, but I know that I’m getting better all the time and I’ll continue and get better as each week goes on.”
“I’ve had terrific support from everyone at the club and I’ve got an affinity with the supporters and they’ve been disappointed with some of the season as I have, but the support they’ve given the team and me over the past few weeks has been magnificent and I thank them all!”
