Brands Hatch hosted its final major event of 2021 this weekend, bringing things to a spectacular close with the first running of the Trucks and Fireworks meeting in two years, in front of a bumper crowd.
On-track action was headlined by the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC), which entertained with five races across the two days. The title battle went right down to the wire in BTRC Division 1, as David Jenkins and Ryan Smith battled all weekend long to secure the crown.
Ultimately it was Smith who claimed top honours, after winning four of the five races, some in dominant fashion. Jenkins refused to give up and took victory in the fourth BTRC race of the weekend, but it wasn’t to be as a spin ended his charge in the finale and Smith sealed a sixth successive championship.
In Division 2 it was Craig Reid who sealed the title after heading into the weekend with a healthy lead from local driver Steve Powell.
As darkness settled on the venue however, the attention of those on site switched to another form of entertainment entirely. Firstly a twilight convoy of show trucks took to the Indy circuit for a special parade, before eyes turned to the skies.
Fans around the venue counted down the final 10 seconds to blast off before the traditional fireworks display lit up the night sky. At the end of the superb display, the venue erupted with cheers and applause as another season of headline meetings came to an end.
