Buckle warns Gills over Kuffour

Bristol Rovers manager Paul Buckle has warned Gillingham that they won’t be getting striker Jo Kuffour on the cheap.

Kuffour’s loan spell at Priestfield expires later this month and Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler has hinted he would like to make the move permanent in the January transfer window.

Despite Gillingham’s desire to keep hold of the 30 year old who has scored five times in eleven appearances, Buckle has warned them that they won’t be letting the striker go on the cheap:

“Jo is still our player, let’s make no bones about that.”

“If the right deal isn’t tabled to suit us here at Bristol Rovers, then he’ll be coming back.

“I’ve seen a bit of talk in the papers, but Jo will be going nowhere unless we get the right offer.”

Kuffour hasn’t been given permission to play against Rovers at Priestfield on Saturday, so will have to watch on from the stands as the two clubs go head to head.

With his goalscoring prowess over the years having earned him a reputation as a natural fox in the box, Gillingham seem certain to face competition for his signature in January if the two clubs can come to an agreement, however it is believed that The Gills are Kuffour’s preferred destination.
