This weekend see’s the second round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship head to Donington Park.
Whilst all the talk and the eyes are on Team BMR and Honda in the battle at the front of the grid and who will dominate this time out.
However, there are teams working hard and going quietly unnoticed in their development ahead of the second round of a very competitive season.
Mike Bushell the reigning Clio Cup champion made his debut in the BTCC and really did impressive, with some fantastic races and culminating in an 11th place finish in the final race of the weekend.
The Ford Focus prepared by AMD Tuning really does look like when it is dialled in can be challenging with the cars at the sharp end, and given a bit more experience and a few more races Bushell could be one to watch in the series.
Similarly it was good to see the return of Team Hard at their home race, having not been seen on the BTCC grid since 2013. The Toyota Avensis looks amazing in its new colour scheme and Tony Gilham and the team have done a fantastic job in getting the car prepared.
Kieran Gallagher is the man behind the wheel and another rookie competing in his first full season in the series, and after a shaky start in qualifying he certainly showed he knows how to race. A 20th place finish was his best result at Brands Hatch, but it was clearly watching the car there is more pace to come and he will soon be a regular points scorer.
Hopefully driving the Welch Motorsport Proton this weekend will be the luckless Andy Wilmot from Dartford. He endured a tough introduction to the BTCC, with limited running in testing ahead of the weekend, issues meant he was hampered in practice and qualifying. He then didn’t take to the grid for any of the three races owing to issues with the engine, so he will be hoping to show what he can do this weekend at Donington.
The support series will once again have a host of Kent based racers at the wheel with Paul Knapp and Jack Mitchell in the Clio Cup. Esmee Hawkey and Dave Wooder will once again be competing in the Ginetta Junior Championships, and MBM racing will be back in the MSA Formula.
