BSB wows the crowds at Brands Hatch
BSB wows the crowds at Brands Hatch

If Carlsberg did MCE British Superbike weekends, then this was exactly what Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne got from the Big Brands bash at the weekend.

The ride in race one for victory having dropped to ninth place was nothing short of superb. Then in race two the King of Brands Hatch showed just how good he and the Ducati is, as he came home with a 5.7 second lead over James Ellison in second.

Yes Josh Brookes was pushing him and catching him having grabbed the lap record, but in pushing too hard he came off.

It was also a good weekend for the two other Kent based riders Jake Dixon and Bradley Ray, who finished with solid top tens in race two and that made it a double for Ray who finished P10 in race one, with Dixon just a place behind.

In the support series the Reeves brothers were once again in imperious form in the sidecars, taking victory in all races across the weekend.

In the Superstock 1000 Alex Olsen and Rob McNealy were both DNF’s in race one on Saturday afternoon, in race two that continued as the race is in two parts, so one race in two parts. In Race three Rob McNealy finished in 17th place with James Edwards a DNF along with Olsen.

Whilst in British Supersport race two didn’t go quite to plan for Ryan Dixon as he was taken out early in the race at Clearways. Race one didn’t fare much better with a DNF to his name, to make it a disappointing home round for the Folkestone based racer.

Ross Twyman saw his weekend improve after a 15th place finish on Saturday, he was back inside the top ten with P9 on Sunday afternoon. Tom Ward also saw an improvement in his weekend, following up a P22 finish in race one with a P15 in race two.

The season now moves onto Thruxton in two weeks time and Shakey will to in full of confidence with four wins on the bounce.
