On the eve of their metropolitan Kent derby in the First Round of the FA Cup, Dartford keeper Jason Brown has updated KSN about the racism claims that were made during the Darts Conference game at Bristol Rovers last month.
Jason told us, “I had the initial visit from a Police officer at home and they said they’d be dealing with it so as far as I know that’s where we are as I haven’t heard anything from the FA.”
“But as far as I know the Police were going to be the ones dealing with it. I would have liked to have been kept more informed by what’s going on, but I guess it’s the way the “system” works!”
“Of course it’s desperately disappointing it happened as let’s face it, it happened at my place of work and I’m sorry that shouldn’t be allowed to happen – anywhere!”
“Just because I’m paid to entertain people doesn’t give anyone the right to be abused. Things like this fortunately are still in the minority and that mustn’t be allowed to happen again, and I think that the fact that the Police are taking things so seriously proves that we are at least going in the right direction.”
“I think that a lot of what I received is swept under the carpet and it’s not just in sport, but also more sadly in society itself as there’s a hell of a lot that doesn’t come out, and in a way it heaps even more pressure on the people who do report things.”
“What you have is still there – but there seems to me to be a lot more that people choose to ignore and some of the occasions that I’ve heard of, they simply choose not to deal with it. After all, it is a crime and a criminal offence.”
Sadly Jason’s case isn’t the only one currently rocking the County. The Gills and Mark McCammon case has reared it’s ugly head once again. “I know Mark really well and I know of his case,” Jason told us.
“Sadly, I believe that if the Football Association and the Authorities didn’t today think that there was something to answer, they wouldn’t have come back again such a long time after the initial case and result of that.”
“For the FA to come back after this time and charge both the Chairman and the club, they (the FA) must believe that there is still a case to answer to.”
“Gillingham are a club very close to my heart, and I can only say that during my time there, I had a great time, and met an awful lot of nice people and had great banter all round.”
“Although the personnel have changed, it’s still very sad to me and probably 99.99% of all Gills fans everywhere.”
“But at the end of the day, I fear that there must be some case to answer as otherwise no one would have been charged by the authorities in footballing circles as well as outside of the game.”
“Bottom line is, whether I (or others) like it or not, we sadly have to still put up with these ideas. Whether we like it or not, there is still an undercurrent present in our society – it just mustn’t be allowed to surface.”
