Steve Brown takes his Ebbsfleet United to Priestfield today looking to win the 125th Kent Senior Cup Final.
The Fleet manager believes it is only right and proper that his side give it their best shot to try and win the Cup having also made the Skrill South play-offs Final.
Taking on Dover Athletic in the Final will give the game some extra edge and Brown wants his side to take the game seriously:
“I said at the start of the season that we were going to take every single cup game seriously and we did.”
“We did well in the FA Cup, in the FA Trophy and making the final of the Kent Senior Cup is some achievement.”
“It’s a big deal and some of our players won’t have played at Priestfield and it’s 125 years for the Kent FA, so it’s a big deal for them.”
“Let’s hope the game matches the preparation and the build up as there are quite a few things going on behind the scenes.”
“It’s an honour and a privilege to take Ebbsfleet United to Priestfield for the final.”
Both sides had their play-off semi-finals in which to compete before the final on Bank Holiday Monday, with Brown admitting it could work two ways:
“The downside for both sides is that the game comes smack after the play-off semi finals and could be on a real downer after losing a semi-final or concentrating on the final of the play-off if you get through.”
“We can only do what we can do and I have got a seventeen man squad and I’ll have to adjust it as best I can as each game comes.”
Brown himself has won the Kent Senior Cup in the past and holds special memories for the Ebbsfleet United manager and he would like his players to go out and play with passion:
“I have won it with Charlton Athletic and played with the likes of Alan Pardew and Steve Gritt.”
“I’ve got a picture of it up on the wall at home and if memory serves me right we beat Gillingham (1994 -95) in the final 2-0. ”
“That was a good day and being in the Kent Senior Cup Final, we got there and played to win.”
“Once you are there it is an honour to win the competition and from our perspective, we wanted to get to the final and do well in the league and it’s been a good year for us so far.”
“We’re not just going to Priestfield for the day out, we’re going there to win it.”
