Bromley take on Wrexham in the National League at Hayes Lane on Saturday in what looks like a must win game if they are to turn round their recent poor run of form and stay in touch with the top seven, while their opponents need a win to keep them away from the bottom four.
The Ravens go into the match having only picked up one point from their last six games and a mere four points in 2020, which has seen them drop to eighth in the table on 51 points from 35 played.
Last Saturday manager Neil Smith’s side lost 1-0 at Stockport County, with The Ravens boss bemoaning his team’s bad luck and the fine form of the County keeper.
Wrexham’s game was called off last weekend, but in their previous outing they lost 3-2 at Chesterfield, conceding a 94th minute goal after twice going in front via an own goal and Jordan Ponticelli.
The Red Dragons currently sit nineteenth with 39 points from 34 matches, only two points off the relegation places. Their recent form has been consistently inconsistent, but they have still slowly edged away from the bottom of the league.
When the sides met at The Racecourse Ground in November, Wrexham came out 1-0 winners with a second half goal from Luke Young sealing the victory for Dean Keates’ side. Among their squad is striker JJ Hooper who had an impressive loan spell for Bromley last season, having joined his home town club from Grimsby Town from January to May 2019.
Bromley fans will always have happy memories of playing Wrexham at Hayes Lane in their first ever National League game in August 2015, when The Ravens won 3-1 after going a goal down. When they met at Hayes Lane in January last season The Ravens also won, 2-0 this time with strikes from Marc-Anthony Okoye & George Porter. Bromley have a good record at home against their opponents from North Wales with one draw and three wins to date.
Bromley have urged fans to get behind Neil Smith’s team and with both teams desperate for points this should be a close fought encounter, which could shape the direction of the clubs fortunes going into the last quarter of the campaign.
