Bromley vs Swindon Town – Preview

Bromley play their last game of 2024 looking to continue their impressive recent run on Sunday lunchtime when they take on Swindon Town in a League Two fixture at Hayes Lane.

The Ravens go into the game unbeaten in eight games and having defeated Newport County 5-2 at home on Boxing Day courtesy of goals from Omar Sowunmi, Callum Reynolds, Michael Cheek, Jude Arthurs & Ben Thompson.

But for a ten minute wobble after going 4-0 up Bromley were superb on the day and the win left Andy Woodman’s team in twelfth place with 30 points from their opening 21 league games.

Swindon make the journey across from Wiltshire sitting in twenty first place with 20 points from 22 games, Ian Holloway’s men drew 1-1 away at AFC Wimbledon, Harry Smith putting The Robins in front before The Dons equalised in the second half.

Town have only lost once in their last five, which has seen them edge away from the bottom two. Among The Robins squad is striker Kabongo Tshimanga who many Bromley fans will remember from his days at Boreham Wood and Chesterfield.

Michael Cheek has twelve league goals for Bromley so far this campaign, while Swindon’s top scorer is Harry Smith with nine.

2024 has been a momentous year for Bromley, winning promotion to the Football League for the first time and also reaching the third round of the FA Cup and they will be hoping to round it off with three points.

The last time these clubs met in a competitive fixture was back in November 1977 when The Ravens were in the Isthmian League Division One and they travelled to The County Ground in an FA Cup First Round tie that saw John Biddle’s team eventually lose 7-0 to the Division Three side.

The clubs did meet in a friendly at Hayes Lane back in July 2014, the match ending 1-1. Keeper Wes Foderingham is the most high profile player to have represented both clubs.

With Bromley and Swindon Town both in good form and looking to end 2024 in positive style this looks set to be another entertaining encounter at The Lane.

A small number of tickets are still available from the official Bromley website. Kick off is at 12;30pm and it is being shown live on Sky Sports.
