Bromley are back in National League action on Saturday afternoon as they entertain old rivals Sutton United at Hayes Lane, with manager Neil Smith looking to turn round a poor run of form and re-ignite The Ravens play off challenge.
Having slipped from top to ninth in the past few months, picking up only four points in 2020, Bromley know that anything but a win could see them lose touch with the top seven.
The Ravens lost 2-0 at home to Wrexham last weekend conceding a goal at the start of the first half and at the end of the second, a performance that left Smith ‘fuming’ with the players in his post match interview.
The defeat left The Ravens on 51 points from 36 games, in a crowded area between twelfth and fifth.
One of few bright sparks on the day was the performance of Huddersfield Town’s loanee winger Aaron Rowe who came on as sub in the second period and provided some excitement for the home crowd.
Bromley played a behind closed doors friendly on Tuesday morning with Smith keen to try some things out and give players a chance to stake a claim for a starting place against Sutton.
Sutton make their way over from Surrey in decent form, they drew 2-2 at home to leaders Barrow on Saturday having trailed 2-0 at one stage, Harry Beautyman scoring both goals. After a tough start to their season Matt Gray’s side have eased away from the bottom four and now sit in sixteenth with 43 points from 34 games played.
Since losing 2-0 at home to Bromley in November, United have only lost once in the league, although they have drawn their last four matches in the competition.
The game at Gander Green Lane in November saw The Ravens put on an almost perfect display of how to play away from home, with Ben Williamson and Michael Cheek scoring in either half.
Sadly for Smith and the fans, Bromley have only won three National League matches since then, but this game, with all the added spice of a derby, could be the spark that starts a positive run into the end of the regular season.
When the sides last met at Hayes Lane, Bromley won 2-1, with a late Jake Goodman header winning the match in front of the Live BT Sport cameras.
The club have called upon the supporters to get behind the team and turn up in numbers to help lift the team on what could be a pivotal game for the team.
