Form side Bromley look to continue their recent great run of results on Boxing Day when they take on Newport County in a League Two fixture at a sold out Hayes Lane.
The Ravens go into the game unbeaten in seven competitive matches and having not lost in the league since mid-October. A run that has taken them up to fourteenth in the table with 27 points from 20 games, only four points off the play off spots.
Last Saturday Andy Woodman’s team won 2-0 away at Morecombe with goals from Omar Sowunmi and Michael Cheek. Cheek now on twelve goals so far in his debut EFL season.
Josh Passley got some minutes for the first team on Saturday after a long spell out and Deji Elerewe also played for the B team in their game at Exeter Citylast Friday, but there is no news on another long term casualty Marcus Dinanga.
Newport make the journey across from South Wales sitting in sixteenth, one point behind Bromley. Last weekend County won 6-3 at home to MK Dons, Bobby Kamwa and Bryn Morris both scoring hattricks for Nelson Jardim’s side taking their unbeaten run to five games. Among the Newport squad is striker Kyle Hudlin who Bromley fans will remember from his days at Solihull Moors, he is The Exiles joint top scorer on four.
The sides haven’t met since Newport County’s National League South days in 2009/10 when they completed the double over Bromley, 2-0 at home and 3-2 at Hayes Lane in a cracking match on their way to promotion. The Ravens have only beaten Newport once in six meetings, County winning four, but the teams are now competing two levels higher in the pyramid than in those previous encounters.
The game is sold out and promises to be a great occasion in front of a full Hayes Lane with both teams looking to continue their good form and move up the League Two table.
