Bromley vs Leiston – Preview

Bromley begin their FA Trophy campaign for this season on Saturday with a home game against Leiston of the Ryman Premier League who have already won through three rounds to reach this stage.bromley-v-lincoln4-570x380

Despite having won the FA Amateur Cup on three occasions, The Ravens have a notoriously poor record in it’s modern day equivalent rarely making it into January and will be hoping to play more than the one game they managed last year.

Bromley have only lost one of their last eight matches and won their last game 2-0 at home to Maidstone Utd in The National League with a display that pleased Manager Neil Smith, keeping a clean sheet and with both strikers Adam Cunnington & George Porter scoring.

Leiston won through to the First Round of the competition with a replay victory over Eastbourne Borough of Conference South on Tuesday night, drawing 2-2 after extra time and winning 5-3 on penalties, completing a 300 mile round trip and returning home in the early hours. The Suffolk side currently sit fifth in the Ryman Premier League with 35pts from 18 games, with several matches in hand, having started the season in really good form over all competitions.

The two sides have met previously in the FA Trophy two years ago, The Ravens winning 2-0 and Leiston have also played at Hayes Lane on a couple of occasions against tenants Cray Wanderers in the league over recent years. Manager Glenn Driver added two new signings in the week in Joe Marsden and Niko Muir to strengthen their squad for the promotion push, while Bromley boss Neil Smith has more options available again despite still being without the services of Ben May, Brad Goldberg, Louis  Dennis and Alex Wall last weekend.

This should be a close fought cup tie between two in form sides with the added incentive of playing at Wembley in May on the distant horizon.

Kick off 3pm at Hayes Lane, BR2.
