Bromley vs AFC Fylde – Preview

Second place Bromley return to National League action on Saturday afternoon when they entertain AFC Fylde at Hayes Lane, looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The Ravens go into the game having picked up six points over the Bank Holiday weekend beating Boreham Wood 1-0 at home and then winning 2-1 at Maidenhead United two days later.

The double victory leaves Neil Smith’s side just one point off early league leaders Woking with 17 points from 7 games played.

Dave Challinor’s Fylde travel down from the Lancashire coast sitting in fourteenth with 9 points from 7 matches played.

They were one of the favourites for promotion at the start of the campaign having lost in the play off final last season to Salford City, following a fifth place finish in the league and they also won the FA Trophy the following week at Wembley, but The Coasters have taken a while to get going this term. Last Saturday Fylde lost 4-1 at Halifax Town and on Monday they drew 0-0 with Harrogate Town at home.

When the sides met at Hayes Lane last season in January, Bromley ran out 3-2 winners, while at Mill Farm in August Fylde won 2-1.

In Both matches league top scorer Danny Rowe netted for the Lancashire side on his way to the golden boot.

Neil Smith was full of praise for his team’s performance at Maidenhead, showing real character to come back from 1-0 down with two second half goals from Reeco Fairchild-Hackett, making the former Charlton winger Bromley’s top scorer so far this campaign.

This promises to be a tight match, which should see another 1,500+ crowd at The Lane, as The Ravens attempt to go unbeaten for the whole of August and Fylde try and get a good run going to move them up closer to the early promotion mix.
