Bromley v York City preview

Bromley continue their busy National League schedule on Saturday afternoon when they take on relegation threatened York City at Hayes Lane.

The Ravens go into the game having kept five consecutive clean sheets, the most recent two being in a 0-0 draw at home with Kidderminster Harriers last weekend, before they took on Wealdstone away in a hastily re-arranged fixture on Wednesday night winning 1-0 thanks to a Michael Cheek goal in the second half.

The results kept Bromley in third place with 70 points from 39 games, five points ahead of Solihull Moors on the same games, although they will now be without keeper Grant Smith who was sent off for violent conduct in the first half against Wealdstone, Academy keeper David Aziaya coming on to make an impressive debut for the club.

York City make the trip down sitting fourth from bottom in the table, with 43 points from 40 matches. The Minstermen recently sacked manager Neil Ardley and now have their third man in charge this season with former Worthing boss Adam Hinshelwood taking the reins for the run in.

On Saturday, City won 1-0 at home to Aldershot Town with Lenell John-Lewis scoring a last minute winner to end a run of eight games without a victory and boost their hopes of league survival with only four points separating 21st from 14th in the league table.

When the sides met at The York Community Stadium in October the game ended 2-2 with Dipo Akinyemi & Lenell John-Lewis scoring for City, while Michael Cheek and Josh Passley scored for Bromley, Passley’s equaliser coming deep into injury time. The previous meeting at Hayes Lane in March last season saw York win 3-0.

The were only three National League game this week due to the England C fixture against Wales, which Bromley keeper Grant Smith had been called up to initially, and in the other matches second placed Barnet won 2-1 against Eastleigh, while leaders Chesterfield lost their game 4-2 with Halifax Town.

Grant Smith will be banned for Saturday following his red card at Wealdstone, but Josh Passley & Besart Topalloj will both be available for Andy Woodman after suspension giving the Bromley manager more options as he looks to maintain the defensive solidity and pick up the vital points that will secure a top three finish with a bye to the play off semi finals and home advantage.

Tickets are available from the Bromley FC website, Adults £20, Concessions £15, Under 16’s £7, 11 years and under are free (accompanied by a paying adult).
