Bromley v Spennymoor Town preview

Bromley return to action at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon for one of the biggest games in the clubs modern history when they take on Spennymoor Town in the quarter final of the FA Trophy.

Both clubs come into to the match just three possible games from a Wembley final, for Bromley it has been 69years since their historic FA Amateur Cup Final win at the old stadium in front of 93,000 fans, for Spennymoor their last visit was far more recent when in 2013 they won the FA Vase final against Tunbridge Wells in front of 16,000.

Since that Vase win the side from Co. Durham have risen back up the pyramid and currently sit seventh with games in hand in the National League North winning 48 points from 27 games so far, while The Ravens occupy eighth in the league above with 52 points from 34 games.

The Moors also reached the semi final of the trophy back in 1978 as Spennymoor United losing to Leatherhead, Utd merged with Evenwood Town in 2005 to form Spennymoor Town after both clubs had hit financial trouble. While this is the furthest The Ravens have been in this competition since switching from the Amateur Cup in the early 1974.

The two sides have never met before, but have both had very good seasons thus far and will prove to be tough opponents.

On Tuesday night Bromley drew 1-1 at Aldershot conceding an equaliser in injury time, their fourth competitive game without a win, while Moor’s game at home to Telford Utd was postponed, which may see them make the trip down a little fresher. Last Saturday they lost 1-0 to Nuneaton Town, their first defeat in 2018 and only their second in three months.

Bromley defeated Hartley Wintney 2-0, Blyth Spartans 4-1 and Workington 7-1 in a replay to reach this round, Spennymoor have seen off Cleethorpes 1-0, Gainsborough Trinity on penalties, Solihull Moors 2-0 and East Thurrock Utd 5-2 in a replay to get this far.

With the final now clear on the horizon neither side will want to let this opportunity slip of making history for their club in this competition and a gate of over 2,000 is expected for this one at Hayes Lane as The Ravens take on The Moors for a place in the semi finals.
