Bromley play their first home game of the new National League season on Tuesday night when they entertain Ebbsfleet United in a local derby at Hayes Lane.
The Ravens drew 0-0 away to newly promoted Chorley on Saturday with a display that was solid at the back, but going forward only saw three shots on goal all of which were off target. Midfielder Michael Klass joined the club on loan from Southend Utd for a month just prior to the game and was given a few minutes at the end to settle him in to the team.
Marc-Anthony Okoye and Korey Henry were both missing due to injuries, although on the plus side Adam Mekki was fit enough to be named as sub as he returns from a broken leg.
After a difficult summer and lots of personnel changes Ebbsfleet started their new season with a 4-1 home defeat to Halifax Town as manager Gary Hill tries to settle in his new squad. Despite going down to ten men early on Fleet had been level at half time before conceding three goals late in the second half.
Two players who left Stonebridge Road at the end of last season, striker Michael Cheek and defender Chris Bush, will be lining up for Bromley on Tuesday night, and as is often the way it could be a good opportunity for Cheek to open his account for his new club against his previous employer. While on The Fleet’s side is John Goddard, who scored their only goal against Halifax, and had a good loan spell with The Ravens last season while he was a Stevenage player.
When the sides met at Hayes Lane on the last day of the season in April, Bromley ran out 6-1 winners, with Neil Smith’s side playing some of their best football of the campaign, but both squads have seen significant change since then.
A good crowd is expected as these two old rivals meet again, both looking to pick up early points and send their fans home happy.
