Bromley v Aldershot Town preview

Bromley are back in National League action again at Hayes Lane on Saturday evening when they host Aldershot Town live in front of the BT Sport cameras.

The Ravens have had a tough start to 2021, picking up just one point and missing out on a series of games due to Covid protocols.

On Tuesday night the drew 2-2 at home to Woking, having lead 2-0 with twenty minutes to go, the draw kept Neil Smith’s side in fourteenth place with 23 points from 16 matches.

Smith had to make a number of changes to his team with Liam Trotter suspended and injuries to Joe Kizzi, Billy Bingham and Harry Forster, while Luke Coulson has been out for some time.

Under 23 team captain Jude Arthurs made his debut at right back, while winger Charlie Wakefield made his first start and scored the second goal, the first coming from Kory Roberts.

Over all the Bromley boss was happy with his team’s display, but re-iterated they need to learn how to see games out.

Aldershot make the journey over sitting in twelfth place with 24 points from 18 league games, Danny Searle’s team started 2021 with three consecutive wins before losing 2-0 at home to Weymouth in midweek.

Both sides are only a couple of points off the play of places and a good run would put them right in the mix with less than half of the seasons scheduled fixtures completed to date.

With Bromley unbeaten away from home this season should they manage to improve their home form, which has seen them lose five league games at Hayes Lane, the opportunity to make the post season games is certainly there.

Although of course there is still considerable doubt over the future of the season with the funding grants / loans saga between the league and DCMS.

This is the first meeting between The Ravens and The Shots this season, but in the last campaign they met in the FA Cup with Bromley winning the tie 4-3, and the National League once with Neil Smith’s side winning again this tome 1-0 thanks to a Jack Holland goal, the reverse league fixture went un-played as things came to an end in mid-March.

Another close game looks in prospect between two teams who are very familiar with each other.

The game is to be played behind closed doors, but with the game screened live on BT Sport, kick off at 5.20pm.
