Two months into their debut EFL campaign and Bromley are averaging a point a game, which continued over the season should see The Ravens safe in League Two.
After winning their opening two League Two matches, The Ravens found things quite tough for the rest of August and the start of September, losing four and drawing once in the league, but three consecutive draws have steadied the ship and Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Fleetwood Town was the team’s first clean sheet in eight games and they created enough chances to win the game in the first half.
The performances in the draws with MK Dons 1-1, Chesterfield 2-2 and then Fleetwood 0-0 have seen progress and improvement, which can be built on as the season goes on.
When Bromley travelled up to Fleetwood Town in 2012 for an FA Cup First Round game the teams were two divisions apart and The Ravens were comfortably outclassed 3-0. Twelve years later they were evenly matched and The Ravens will also start in the FA Cup First Round themselves come November.
Andy Woodman’s success last season was built on the mantra ‘If you don’t’ concede, you don’t lose’ and the knack of keeping clean sheets was essential to securing Bromley’s promotion. If they can re-gain the habit again this campaign, then that should see the Hayes Lane side consolidate their place in the EFL.
The Ravens have a week off due to international call ups seeing their game away at Walsall postponed, Josh Thomas and Cameron Congreve teaming up with Wales U21s and Ashley Charles receiving the call from Grenada.
The next League Two fixture being Tranmere Rovers at home on 19th October, but before that Bromley’s B entertain Luton Town Reserves at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night (ko 7pm) and then Dartford are the visitors next Tuesday 15th in the Kent Senior Cup. Tickets for the KSC game being priced at £10 and £5.
It’s been a steep learning curve so far for the club on and off the field, but the feeling is that Bromley are slowly establishing themselves as a League Two team.
