Bromley forced to postpone opener

Bromley’s opening National League fixture has been postponed due to a Covid 19 outbreak in the Grimsby Town squad.

The Ravens were due to begin their seventh consecutive National League season with a televised home game against The Mariners at Hayes Lane on Saturday evening, but on Tuesday afternoon it was announced that due positive tests in the Grimsby squad the game could not go ahead.

Manager Andy Woodman has assembled a strong squad over the summer and performances in pre-season games have been very promising, with a distinct change in style of play and shape.

The core of last season’s squad, which made the promotion play offs, remains including top scorers Michael Cheek and James Alabi, keeper Mark Cousins and defenders Byron Webster & Chris Bush, while in addition cult hero Louis Dennis has returned to the club along with several new signings such as defenders Omar Sowumni & Joe Partington, midfielder Sam Skeffington and winger Corey Whitely who has re-joined from Boreham Wood.

The Ravens last warm up game saw them defeat Charlton Athletic’s Under 23s 4-1 last Friday with second half goals from Bush, Alabi, Cheek & Dennis.

They will now have to wait until the 28th August to begin with an away game at Dagenham & Redbridge, quickly followed by a home game with Eastleigh on Bank Holiday Monday.
