With the season almost upon us, Kent Sports News Bromley FC reporter Colin Head sat with the KSN team to read the tea leaves and ruminate on all things Bromley.
How would you rate Bromley’s close and pre-season business?
Neil Smith has strengthened in every area, signing some proven players like Chris Bush & Michael Cheek from Ebbsfleet, striker Adrian Clifton from Maidenhead and also a couple of exciting prospects such as striker Korey Henry from Ebbsfleet, winger Reeco Fairchild-Hackett from Charlton and right back Joe Kizzi from Billericay. On top of that we’ve kept the core of last season’s side in defenders Captain Jack Holland, Marc-Anthony Okoye & Sam Wood, in the middle Frankie Raymond & Luke Coulson, plus George Porter who can play just about anywhere!
A lot of fans including myself were sad to see keeper David Gregory go, but Mark Cousins was brought in from Barnet and looks very solid.
What represents a realistic aim for Bromley this season?
There has been talk of the play offs, but Smith has played this down. Realistically improving last season’s eleventh will be a success.
Who is the star signing and why?
Billy Bingham from Gillingham, if he stays fit, he is a class act in central midfield and has looked great in the friendlies. Frankie Sutherland was a difficult player to replace, but Bingham looks like he could more than do the job.
If there is a cause for concern what might that be?
A lack of goals from the strikers in pre-season, neither Cheek or Clifton have found the net as yet, Henry has scored once. We could be relying on set pieces and penalties again like last season until JJ Hooper (now Wrexham) came in on loan in January.
What is your personal prediction for the season?
Eighth and hopefully a decent cup run of some kind.
