2018/19 – National league – 12th – Lost Kent Senior Cup Final – Manager Neil Smith

2019/20 – National League – Currently 3rd – Manager Neil Smith

2010 started at Hayes Lane with a 1-0 loss at home to Welling United in front of just over 1,000 and 2019 ended with a 3-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge in front of over 2,300 playing in a division higher and challenging to promotion to the Football League.

The ground itself has changed significantly with a new stand behind one goal and three 3G practice pitches behind it. The main playing surface is also now 3G and all of the crush barriers on the two terraced sides of Hayes lane have been replaced, plus the perimeter fencing. There is still work to do, but the 81 year old ground is looking good for it’s age.

Over the last ten years the club has had three different managers and the same number of owners, but finds itself in a far more stable position than it did at some stages of that time thanks to the vision and hard work of Jerry Dolke and a small committed team of staff and volunteers.

Current Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleeves has spoken of his ambition to see the club in the Football League, which would have seemed ridiculous ten years ago, but could now actually happen.

From 2010 through to 2013 the main aim for Bromley was to stay in Conference South, at times it went to the last few games of the season, with a famous 2-1 win at Truro City in April 2012 living long in the memory of of Ravens fans when they came back from a goal down to all but secure safety in the pouring rain down in Cornwall.

The following year Bromley lifted the London Senior Cup with a 2-1 win over Kingstonian despite being down to ten men and that trophy win heralded a new era for the club.

2013/14 saw a stronger squad assembled and for the first time sights were set on a tilt at promotion, Rob Swaine, Jack Holland (after a loan spell the previous season), Bradley Goldberg & Jay May joined and for long periods of the season the Ravens were top of the table, before eventually falling short late on and finishing third.

A Play Off semi final defeat to Ebbsfleet United proved to be the catalyst for an even stronger squad to be put together that summer. The arrival of Moses Ademola and Jamie Slabber gave the team an even bigger goal threat and they both finished the season on double figures as the Ravens secured the league title with a game to spare. Both Ademola and Slabber scoring in the 3-0 win over Weston Super Mare which saw Mark Goldberg’s side lift the championship.

And so to 2015/16 and Bromley’s first ever season in Non League football’s top flight. In the early part of the inaugural campaign Goldberg’s side made a fantastic start with Moses (Ademola) Emmanuel, Louis Dennis and Anthony Cook making a three pronged attack of flair, pace and goals, which many teams couldn’t live with. Sadly by February Cook had left and Dennis was injured, results dipped and Bromley slipped down the table leading to Goldberg being sacked. So started the Neil Smith era, guiding the team to safety in his first half a season before steadily making progress from there.

A tenth place finish in his first full season saw the club consolidate it’s place as a National League team before 2017/18, with a brand new 3G pitch laid, saw Bromley not only just miss out on a play off spot, but make it to the FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium.

Bromley sold 20,000 tickets for the game and all looked to be going well when Omar Bugiel put the Ravens in front after 25 minutes, but eventually it ended in heart ache conceding a last minute equaliser and losing on penalties to Conference North side Brackley Town.

Last season started with the team struggling, Louis Dennis, Brandon Hanlan and Josh Rees had left in the summer to join League One clubs and their replacements  were not quite up to scratch. Eventually with cunning use of the loan market and the signings of Sam Wood, Richard Brindley and Luke Coulson, Neil Smith guided to the team to a 12th place finish and they also reached the Kent Senior Cup final only to lose on penalties to Maidstone United.

And so to the last year of the decade and with the new Glyn Beverly stand open for use, Bromley are making a tilt at the National League title, the signing of Michael Cheek giving the team a vital goal threat along with the skilful wing play of another pre-season acquisition Reeco Hackett-Fairchild.

Despite terrible luck with injuries and suspensions The Ravens sit third as 2019 comes to an end just two points off leaders Barrow, crowds are up to around 2,000+ for every home game, well over double what they were at the start of the decade and Bromley FC can look back on a very positive ten years.
