Bromley’s FA Trophy campaign came to an end on Tuesday night as they lost on penalties to Woking following a 1-1 draw at a blustery Hayes Lane.
The Ravens started brightly with Michael Cheek seeing a chipped effort from the edge of the box brilliantly tipped over by Craig Ross.
As the half went on the game evened out and Woking then had a strong spell of pressure, a good passing move set up Slavi Spasov, but he was denied by a superb Byron Webster block tackle as he shot on goal.
Charlie Cooper tried to lob Mark Cousins from range, but The Ravens keeper tipped the ball away for a corner and then Spasov scuffed a chance wide as he connected to a low cross.
Cousins saved well again from a Cooper free kick, before Bromley had a good spell going into the break. Debutant Courtney Duffus had a shot deflected wide and from the Chris Bush corner Ben Williamson headed wide at the far post.
The second half started with both sides looking to attack and it was Bromley who got the early breakthrough when Bush played in Harry Forster who was brought down in the box by Kane Ferdinand for a penalty. Cheek powered home the spot kick to put The Ravens in front, but the lead only lasted three minutes.
Jack Cook sent in a perfectly flighted cross from deep and Max Kretzschmar headed home at the far post to make it 1-1 on 51 minutes.
The game continued to flow from end to end with Joe Kizzi going close for Bromley and former Raven John Goddard having a free kick saved at the other end.
Kretzschmar hooked a half volley over from a corner as Woking pressed, but with both teams having had lengthy lay offs prior to this cup tie, the pace then slowed after the hour mark.
Passes became less accurate in the windy conditions and legs started to tire, but strangely neither manager made any substitutions. Woking posed a threat from set pieces, crosses and Cook’s long throws, but Bromley were equal to the task at the back.
Late on The Ravens pressed with Williamson having a shout for a penalty and Forster going close with a cross shot that hit the top of the net.
Right at the end Cheek latched on to a Bush through ball, but he was denied by a fantastic tackle from Ben Gerring as he shaped to shoot on goal.
The game ended all square and went straight to penalties with the spot kicks being taken in front of the Glyn Beverly stand. Bush, Cheek and Raymond all converted for The Ravens, but Duffus saw his penalty saved by Ross, only for Cousins to then deny Woking’s Ferdinand.
Bingham Trotter and Williamson also netted, but Forster was thwarted by Ross and with Lofthouse converting the.
Next kick for The Cards, the visitors progressed to the fifth round 7-6.
Neil Smith’s side now prepare for a trip to Halifax Town on Saturday before playing Woking again at Hayes Lane next Tuesday this time in the National League.
