Bromley enjoying strong start

Bromley FC came into the season full of energy and hope after the club’s first ever promotion to the Football League, adding 10 new players to the first team squad including ex England international and Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson.

With the recent promotion and step up in financial demands, the club looked to loan signings in order to strengthen the squad, such as Crystal Palace fullback Danny Imray who has impressed both fans and manager after his fast start to the season that saw him pick up 2 assists in his first 9 games of his EFL career.

The Ravens started the season off strongly, making history as they picked up back-to-back wins in their first two league games of the season away to Harrogate Town and at home AFC Wimbledon.

The clubs first taste of defeat in the league came away to Bradford in a game that ended 3-1, with Grenada international Ashley Charles getting sent off after just eight minutes. A loss that started off a run of form that would see Bromley fail to record a win for 9 straight league games, picking up just four points from a possible 27.

In the first 14 games of the season, there was some bright stars for the Ravens with veteran goal scorer Michael Cheek picking up 7 goals in what is his first season of EFL football despite his age of 33.

Another positive for Bromley have been the performances of wingback Idris Odutayo who has picked up three assists in the league, the highest of any Ravens player. The 22-year-old has also won 56% of his duels this season, numbers that show Odutayo has been a consistent performer throughout the season so far.

This bad run of form was ended with a one nil win away to Doncaster, a game where Stevenage loanee Ben Thompson picked up his second league goal of the season. This result was followed by draws at home to Barrow and away to Cheltenham, another result that saw the Ravens come from behind despite Carl Jenkinson’s early red card, the clubs third of the season already.

Despite the Ravens previous bad run of form, they are currently four games unbeaten in all competitions, including a first-round win in the FA cup that held late drama with Bromley scoring two goals in additional time to send them through.

Bromley face Carlisle at home in their next league fixture, in a game that both sides need to win in order to strengthen their bid for survival.
